The FATE Project - From Africa To Europe
Welcome to FATE, everyone!
From Africa To Europe - in short, FATE - is an ongoing project that arose as a collaboration between GYIN Gambia Chapter and Inspiresouls e.V
Sponsored by the Africa-Europe-Foundation, this project takes place as part of the AEF's Award Scheme. It aims to empower Youth in The Gambia, Rwanda, and Germany to collaboratively address climate change and sustainable development.
GYIN Gambia Chapter is a non-profit youth organization, located in The Gambia, providing entrepreneurship trainings for the youth, women, farmers, and migrants.
The Africa-Europe-Foundation is an institution that builds partnerships and creates dialogue between the two continents. The AEF is the sponsoring institution of the FATE Project.
Inspiresouls e.V. is a non-profit organization based in Germany. Through various projects, Inspiresouls e.V. aims to improve the education and inspire young students in Rwanda, The Gambia, and Germany.
Climate change poses significant challenges globally, impacting various regions differently.
...despite contributing less than 0.01% to global (CO2) emissions, the country faces severe climate threats including coastal erosion and water scarcity.
...an increase in extreme weather events over the past 30 years, with floods and landslides affecting its Western and Northern provinces, while droughts impact the Eastern regions.
...climate change is leading to more frequent extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall and heatwaves, while the reduction of its emissions is an essential goal.
By adhering to and accomplishing our missions, in the future, we aim to:
Inspire Youth to become Bridge Builders between continents, driving global solutions for a sustainable future.
Our Mission?
What the FATE Project wants to achieve can be summarized in the three essential statements:
01
Facilitate meaningful local and cross-continental discussions among Youth from The Gambia, Rwanda, and Germany, encouraging the exchange of diverse perspectives.
02
Engage Youth in identifying key climate challenges in a global world, ensuring that young people have a platform to express their ideas, influence decision-making, and drive impactful change.
03
Encourage Youth to become leaders of global change, inspiring and motivating others through a living product to join the Youth Think Tank beyond the project's duration.
FATE's project team includes young volunteers from The Gambia, Germany, Kenya, and Rwanda. In addition to our commitment to diversity, FATE consists of a team with a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds, each bringing valuable expertise in their respective fields.
Get to know some of us here:
Abubakarr (24), from The Gambia
I am an entrepreneur from the Gambia. I have been with Inspiresouls for more than a year now and I have been trained by GYIN Gambia on various topics in entrepreneurship. The FATE project is a great initiative from our relentless team, I believe it's impact will lead to great changes in Africa in general.
Let's make the world a better place and we will live in better ways.
Isiaka (29), from Rwanda
I was born and raised in Rwanda and am currently a student at the University of Rwanda, graduating in Human Resource Management. I was introduced to the organization FATE by my friend Alex, who invited me to join. I am dedicated to working with youth and serving my community. I am truly happy to be part of this team, and I am passionate about making a positive impact not only in my community but also around the world.
Ellyn (26), from Kenya
I have been with Inspiresouls for about a years and I have been active within the marketing department. FATE, as a project for the Youth by the Youth, drives the collective action needed by both Africa and Europe to transition towards a sustainable, just, and low-carbon future. The efforts from the Youth in both continents prove a shared wealth of knowledge on rethinking their role in advancing and strengthening narrative advocacy.
Jan (24), from Germany
After finishing my Bachelor studies in the Netherlands, I started my volunteering journey with Inspiresouls and the FATE project only recently. However, in that short time, I realized how much enjoyment I have doing this work.
The FATE Project, I believe, is a big step into a bright future, building the foundation for youths across the globe to unite, discuss, and resolve pressing global matters together - taking their future into their own hands.

Impact
Glad you are interested! With FATE, we are establishing Youth Think Tanks in The Gambia, Rwanda, and Germany focused on climate change and sustainable development. By doing so, we encourage Youth to become bridge builders, fostering global solutions and lasting partnerships between Africa and Europe.
These Youth Think Tanks are each led by university students of the respective country and will host appearances of topic experts from various research fields, such as sustainable development, climate change, and many more!
By applying and choosing to participate in our project, not only do you get to take part in a cross-continental project and engage in inspiring and meaningful discussions with like-minded peers, but you will also gather valuable experiences and insights that can potentially pave the way to the university program or job of your dreams.
Project Planning
Currently, FATE is in the late stages of its Project Planning Phase, as well as currently rolling out its Marketing and Outreach Phase. These phases are expected to come to a close by the end of 2024.
The more exciting phases will take place as we head into 2025, namely the Execution Phases. Around the beginning of next year, FATE will set up Local Youth Think Tank Sessions in which you will gain more information on pressing climate and sustainability issues (that your home country faces) and discuss them with peers from your country.
Afterward, the insights you gained from the Local YTT sessions will be shared and discussed with your peers in Cross-Continental Youth Think Tank Sessions. Here, you will exchange views and ideas with peers from other countries and discuss possible solutions to the issues that you have identified.
The next phase will concern the creation of the project's Final Product. In a final set of sessions, with the help of your YTT Leaders, the friends and peers you have become acquainted with at FATE, and all the knowledge you have gained throughout the project thus far, you will contribute to the creation of a product that symbolizes all of your efforts and ideas. What this product may be is completely up to you, so let your creativity flow!
You, of course!
If you are between 15-18 years old student, a farmer, or currently unemployed while 18 years or above in the areas of Banjul (The Gambia), Kigali (Rwanda), and Passau (Germany), you are eligible to take part in the FATE Youth Think Tanks. Furthermore, if climate change and environmental sustainability are important personal topics to you, then you are a perfect candidate to take part in FATE!
